Take a look at Calvert and you’ll find an impressive list of families and alumni. Over the course of our history, we have had the privilege of educating hundreds of thousands of students who have grown up to be incredible adults. Among so many others, President Barack Obama, Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, Pulitzer prize winning novelist Pearl S. Buck, and political commentator William F. Buckley, Jr. were at one time or another all Calvert students.

The flexibility and quality of Calvert fits the lifestyles of many different types of families and students. We are so proud of our Calvert families, students, and alumni. Here are some of their stories.
Devynn Martin, Calvert student and competitive skier with the US Ski & Snowboard Association.
“She is working so hard. She spends at least 5 hours a day training and then we are spending time with school work throughout the weekend. She is learning so much and enjoying that part. We are really grateful for Calvert. Without the Verticy program, Devynn would not be where she is academically.”

I like ATS [Advisory Teaching Service], my two are middle school so I feel it is preparing them for high school. Plus, it solves my FL reporting requirements with the least amount of interference/oversight from the county school system.
— Melissa J., Calvert Middle School Mom
“Calvert outlines everything you need to do and say to your child. I didn’t need to plan anything–it was all planned for me. Thank you so much, Calvert, for your fabulous homeschool material. I have, and will continue to, recommend this program to anyone considering homeschooling their child.”
— Brodie G., Calvert Mom
“My son missed the public school Kindergarten cut-off date by two weeks, so we enrolled with Calvert “temporarily”. Four years later, we’re still with Calvert. My son is testing years ahead of his peers and I could not imagine a better curriculum. We plan to continue with Calvert through High School.”
— Heather B., Calvert Mom
“The 7th Grade program far exceeded my expectations. As a retired teacher, I was impressed with the quality and depth of the curriculum. It challenged my grandson, but taught him critical thinking skills that he will use for the rest of his life.”
— Elizabeth Z., Calvert Grandmother
Chloe Collins, Calvert student, singer and songwriter with her own record label
“I love the flexibility that Calvert gives me. I can spend a whole day in the studio recording a song and still get all my schoolwork done. I also love the fact that there is so much one-on-one attention at Calvert; this is both the first year I’m being homeschooled and the first year I’m getting straight A’s!”
— Chloe C., Calvert Academy Student
Dr. Tara (Penny) Mahoney, Calvert Alumna, celebrating with her professor after successfully defending her dissertation in Molecular Biology at Princeton University
“We started using Calvert when our children were ages 6 and 4 ½. We were living in the Netherlands. Both children used Calvert through 8th grade and then went to high school in the Dominican Republic. Both children graduated with National Honor Society Awards and started university with enough credits for double majors. Both graduated from college with high honors also!
Calvert gave my children a thorough start to their education and taught them to excel academically.”
— Carolyn C., Calvert Mom
Gabrielle Wilson, two time Junior Olympian and all star swimmer, meeting a U.S. Army Commander.
“Thank you for having a wonderful program. Gabrielle, as well as my other children, have been very successful with your curriculum. I appreciate you and your staff very much.”

I am so happy as of late with respect to how Belle is progressing, how content I am with the program and how I now feel motivated to include more of my own creative ideas which enhance the Verticy curriculum. I just wish we had done this years earlier as it has become crystal clear how much better an education a child can receive when homeschooled. I can’t tell you how serene and balanced we all feel since undertaking this project. I can’t imagine ever returning to traditional schooling. I am convinced that by the time high school rolls around for Belle she will be ever so ready for the challenge.
— Elizabeth M., Verticy Parent
Michelle H., world-trained classical ballet dancer
“When I began to attend dance classes every day of the week, my academic work slowed down tremendously. I was not getting good grades, and I was tired the whole day because I had rehearsals all night! Eventually it was decided that homeschooling would be the best thing for me. I was a little scared at first, because I wanted to keep a high quality education. After discovering Calvert, I was so relieved that I would receive a quality education, and still be able to dance full time.”
— Michelle H., Calvert Academy Student
Attorney Bran Mahoney, Calvert Alumnus and graduate of George Mason Law

Both children used Calvert through 8th grade and then went to high school in the Dominican Republic. “I researched private college prep schools in my area and compared them to Calvert Academy. The Calvert program won, hands down. Not only was Calvert Academy more affordable, but the curriculum far surpassed even the most elite private schools. I’ve been thoroughly impressed by the program and my son’s teachers.”
